Minister's Letter for October 2018

Pause for thought..... There were four people, named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done ...... My ‘go to’ gardener, Monty, set out to hard-back prune the encroaching woody plant against the back garage wall. He came across a wren’s nest, a clump of moss, and was having a bit of a think when out popped the head of a field mouse. They momentarily looked at each other, unblinking, and the chase began. I’m not telling you whether Monty or mouse led the chase, that’s for your imagination! As a mouse taking over a wren’s nest , and adapting it, with its own materials, to suit the prevailing conditions, we, too, need to keep pausing to ensure that we are thinking through God’s purposes in this time and place. ‘Eclipse’ group is about to launch. That will be a good place to share and think ahead. (First meeting on Thursday, 27th September 7.15pm at the Manse). Underpinning all we do, be that through efforts to maintain our concert season, our upcoming events, our garden, our pastoral care, our committee work, our community awareness, must be prayer and worship, through which we not only speak with God, but learn to listen to His will for us. May we find the wisdom we need, hear the needs of those we meet, and love the life that we are given. God be with us Rev Sue.
